Update from the World Health Assembly - Well, YES they did withdraw 12 of the 13 original amendments to the International Health Regulations BUT they kept the amendment to Article 59 AND they added a few new amendments to Articles 55, 61, 62, 63. Like we said these people are sneaky critters. As you will see most of the new amendments deal with time lines for accepting amendments and implementation of amendments. There will be future meetings to discuss the draft amendments. So it is not over. And it is always possible the dictatorial original amendments could always creep back into the conversation. My feeling from some of the statements from the other member states was they wanted more involvement in the creation of amendments to the IHR (instead of allowing the US to run the show). “One Health” came up a lot (it is more like NO HEALTH) and money was also a common thread…..of course US money. They also renamed the WGPR committee to WGIHR (Working Group International Health Regulations) so as you can see they just regrouped. DRAFT RESOLUTION
The first presentation of a draft International Treaty on Prevention, Preparedness and Response (The Pandemic Treaty) is scheduled for August.
