I have a liberal brother. In his town, he led a group of like-minded citizens to petition the town management to build a public swimming pool.
I called him a thief, explaining that he was asking the government to take money from neighbors who DON'T want a pool, DON'T want to pay for it, and DON'T want to have another social boondoggle that requires an increased budget every year. "You want those confiscated funds to go to a FEW who are too selfish to install their OWN pool and who feel entitled to a pool, if they want one."
He said; "Anyone who doesn't want the pool can stay away."
I said; "But, they cannot opt out of paying for it FOR YOU! That makes you a robber!"
"I'm not stealing anything, I'm asking the town to build it for everyone."
I said; "You are using the petitions you've gathered and the town managers like a firearm in a robbery! You're a thief! Build your own damn pool and get your hand out of your neighbor's pocket."
Well, as you know, all liberals lie all the time and "tu dinero es mi dinero". Therefore, he continued lying to himself about it and pressed the petition forward...they got their pool. It became a costly boondoggle. And, it became THE PLACE for the residents in town, who live in rental housing and pay no taxes, to send their kids through the summer.
After a couple of years of operation, NONE of the town's taxpayers were using the pool. They were paying for it, but the non-taxpayers were the only ones enjoying it!!
Does this sound like every social program from the war on poverty to public transportation? I'm fine with liberal programs....if THEY ALONE want to pay for them. But, the only way we wind up with wind farms, solar panels, and electric cars is if EVERYONE pays so the few can benefit.
That ain't America. It's what has destroyed every occurrence of democratic society in human history.
