When I was a kid my mom would say “I am going to teach you how to survive a war.”
When I was 10 the lessons scared me but by 20 I thought my mom was dead wrong for telling us that war and hardship was a possibility. I lived in the best country in the world where freedom, liberty and justice reigned. Not possible…simply not possible, but here we are…and the majority are not prepared and for the most part don’t know what is even going on and don’t want to know the full picture if they have some clues that something is amiss. Ugh!
I should add that my mother grew up in the middle of war, torn Italy, WWII. Half of her brothers and sisters died from aerial bombings, grenade explosions and famine. She had a very clear view of hardship.
Saoirse.....thank you for sharing your story. I can remember air raid practices in school...making us hide under our desks. My father even had a guy come to our house to discuss building a bomb shelter in our back yard. Our parents were wiser beyond our understanding at the time.
